Biased denial of health care

House Bill 303

Sponsored by Rep. Amy Regier (R - Kalispell)

This bill was passed and signed into law by Gov. Gianforte despite opposition from all of Montana’s major health care organizations. It is set to take effect October 1, 2023.

Rep. Amy Regier's bill is a second attempt at passing a failed 2021 bill by her father, Sen. Keith Regier. HB 303 is an open attack on abortion care in Montana and also impacts the LGBTQ+ community by allowing medical practitioners and health care institutions to deny health care to patients based on "ethical, moral, or religious beliefs." It could extend to denials of care such as refusing to counsel an unmarried woman seeking IVF or treat a transgender individual with a broken leg. HB 303 is opposed not only by the Montana Sexual & Reproductive Health Collective, but by all of Montana’s major health care organizations.
