Establish requirement for paid sick days

House Bill 386

Sponsored by Rep. SJ Howell (D - Missoula)

This bill was tabled in House Business & Labor Committee on a party-line vote.

Rep. Howell’s bill would set a minimum of five paid sick days per year for full- and part-time workers in Montana (if their workplace has at least 10 employees). Currently, too many Montanans are faced with a terrible choice: Do they take off work to get well or take care of a loved one? Or do they go to work, risking their own health and that of their coworkers, customers, etc.? Paid sick leave is a reproductive rights issue both because Montanans could use sick days to receive abortion care and because parents must be able to take time off to care for a sick child.
